The Power of 67 minutes
So, what does 67 minutes of your time really mean? .For us, it meant rolling up our sleeves and making a difference at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital. On July 18, 2023, the University of Johannesburg's Auckland Bunting Campus volunteers came together to serve.
Our volunteer efforts were diverse and impactful. We cleaned and sanitized hospital areas, ensuring patients and staff had a hygienic space. We helped with stock taking, organizing supplies, and ensuring essential resources were available. We even lent a hand with laundry duties, and worked in the soup kitchen, preparing nutritious meals.
Nelson Mandela believed that volunteering is a powerful way to bridge social divides and build stronger communities. Research shows that volunteering can reduce stress, boost self-esteem and increase happiness levels. This resonated deeply with our team as we saw the tangible impact of our collective efforts.
Those 67 minutes may seem short, but the impact was real. We saw firsthand how our actions brought joy and comfort to those in need. I extend my gratitude to my fellow UJ volunteers for their selflessness, compassion, and dedication.#MandelaDay #UJVolunteers #CommunityService #CompassionInAction #NelsonMandelaLegacy
